Workshop

Digital transition meets participatory governance

29 May 2018, 09:00 - 16:30
Brussels, Belgium- CEMR Conference Centre

What does digital transition mean for urban planning and participation? What experiences exist in ICT-enabled open governance? How can we improve knowledge, regulations and funding mechanisms across all levels of governance?

CEMR and smarticipate partners invite you to discuss the questions above, share your experience and find out what next steps are available to your city or region. We want to bring together voices from local and regional governments, academia, national and EU level, as well as connect different communities active in the field, such as EU Urban Agenda Digital Transition partnership, JPI Urban Europe, EIP-SCC Citizen Focus, Digital Social Innovation and others.

What if every citizen had access to the same information as their local government? The smarticipate project aims to use open data to make this a reality, giving citizens the information needed to help shape their city. By making data accessible and understandable, citizens are empowered to give input on new public services and solutions to urban problems. As project partners, London (Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea), Hamburg (Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg) and Rome (the City of Rome) are closely involved in the creation of a web platform that enables interested citizens to support the decision making process. The project acts as a learning journey towards a more participatory form of governance and will hold its final conference in Vienna on 7-8 November 2018.
