On 11 April 2018, consumers, business and European authorities will meet in Brussels to offer fresh perspectives on the challenges facing the plastics packaging value chain – and the solutions we need for a circular economy.
Hosted by French plastics engineering cluster Plastipolis, the stakeholder dialogue will present the CIRC-PACK project, one of the EU’s latest innovation drives for a more sustainable plastics sector.
CIRC-PACK is aiming to decouple plastics from fossil fuels by producing breakthrough biodegradable plastics with alternative bio-based raw material. It is also innovating its way to new “eco-design” packaging – which means better recycling of tough-to-manage packaging products.
Of the 25.8 million tonnes of plastic waste produced annually in the European Union, nearly two thirds is packaging waste; often difficult to recover or even to re-use because of its low quality. Packaging which is multilayer and multi-material represents an even bigger challenge.
On 11 April 2018, stakeholders from across Europe will gather to share interests, concerns and solutions to these challenges. There will be a series of in-depth discussions and round tables on both the CIRC-PACK approach and issues such as legislative barriers to recycling bio-based plastics.
