Symposium explores urban integration for climate change adaptation

There is an urgent need to reconfigure urban areas so that they consume fewer resources, emit less pollution and are more resilient to the impacts of climate change. However, the complex interactions of citizens, governments, businesses and non-governmental organisations can be a barrier to dealing with these issues.

To explore how this barrier can be overcome, a two day symposium organised by COST Action TU0902 (Integrated Assessment for Urban Sustainability) will take place in Sheffield (United Kingdom) from 6 – 7 March 2014. The key results of the COST Action will be presented and keynote speeches will be delivered by experts in the fields of sustainable infrastructure and sustainable building design.

Other themes covered by the symposium include green infrastructure and eco-system services, ‘smart cities’ and socio-technical systems, the integration of urban adaptation and mitigation strategies, and decision-making and the governance of urban areas.
