The European Municipal Green Fleets project - Buy efficient is a project of the Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) - Europe campaign and co-funded by the European Commission (DGXVII) under the SAVE II programme. Participating cities included Barcelona, Copenhagen, Hannover, Helsinki-Metropolitan Area Council, Leicester, Lisbon, Rome, and Saarbruecken. The project aimed to develop a local authority vehicle purchasing policy that promotes the purchase of fuel-efficient vehicles. Results included a comprehensive Green Fleet purchasing policy adopted by the respective cities, guidelines for a community-wide initiative on Green Fleet purchasing, a plan for involving more European cities in the programme, and marketing materials aimed at vehicle manufacturers.
