16th Breakfast at Sustainability's

25 November 2014
Brussels, Belgium

The role of local and regional authorities in supporting community-led Renewable Energy projects formed the focus of the 16th Breakfast at Sustainability's (B@S) meeting, which took place in Brussels (Belgium) on 25 November 2014. Generously hosted by the Common Representation of the Alpeuregio (comprising the regions of Tyrol, South Tyrol, and Trentino in Italy), the half-day event, supported by CO-POWER, saw speakers and participants discuss challenges and barriers, as well as share success stories, in the ongoing transition to renewably sourced energy at the local level.

The potential benefits of community energy in relation to energy security were also discussed, and the EU internal energy market addressed. Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, Director of the Internal Energy Market unit, DG Energy, delivered the keynote address, while Tom Jones, Member of the European Economic and Social Committee, provided insight into civil society’s increasingly important role in energy generation.

B@S meetings are small, informal meetings that address topics of sustainable urban development from a local angle. Financing and implementation form core elements of the meetings.
