Regional Secretariats organize workshop on

“Disaster risk management and risk preparedness in World Heritage sites”

29 November - 1 December 2022
Vilnius, Lithuania

In a common effort, the Northwest Europe and North America Secretariat as well as the Central and Eastern European Secretariat provide their members with the opportunity to access an in-depth training workshop on disaster risk management. It will take place from Nov. 29 – Dec. 1 2022 in ICLEI Member Vilnius (Lithuania) and will be moderated by the experts from ICLEI.

The increased frequency of flooding, heatwaves, sea level rise, increased water acidity and humidity, alongside war, earthquakes and many other events is indeed changing the way we can and should manage our historical cities. At the same time, World Heritage cities’ managers often lack capacity to deal with natural and other threats. Raising awareness and increasing capacities on climate change adaptation and urban resilience is key to better manage historical sites.

This workshop presents a unique opportunity to explore the intersection between disaster risk management, urban resilience and heritage management. Participants will learn about innovative tools to assess vulnerabilities and prepare to face local risks, while also having the chance to learn from each other through different co-creative sessions.

If you are interested to participate and have not yet received the invitation, please contact the team from ICLEI Members Warsaw (Poland) or Regensburg (Germany): ceer@ovpm.org or goettler.monika@regensburg.de
