Decarbonising EU Cities via Hydrogen

European Green Week Partner Event

3 June 2021, 11:00 - 12:00
- online

Pollution affects us through the air we breathe, the water we drink, or the soil in which we grow our food. It is a major environmental cause of multiple mental and physical illnesses and premature deaths, especially among children, people with certain medical conditions, and the elderly. This particularly concerns cities in which dense space and high numbers of cars, transportation, heating and cooling systems add to emission and pollution levels. In addition, they are site to a number of fossil fuel based temporary and transportable power gensets.

In order to tackle these challenges in cities, the EVERYWH2ERE project is developing transportable gensets based on fuel cell hydrogen technologies, with the aim of being a viable alternative to diesel generators and being able to supply ZERO EMISSION energy in temporary off-grid events and in construction sites. EU Green Week 2021 will be an opportunity to show how it is possible to make hydrogen affordable to produce power in a sustainable way anywhere in European cities.

Draft Agenda:

  • Project Introduction –Stefania Marongiu (RINA Consulting SpA)
  • How to tackle pollution in EU cities & the role of gensets – Arthur Hinsch (ICLEI EU Secretariat)
  • Genset and EU demo campaign introduction – Sabina Fiorot (Environment Park)
  • Impact of gensets at EU festivals and demo opportunities – Jacob Bilabel  (Green Music Initiative)
  • Use of gensets at construction sites, environmental impact and ACCIONA Demonstration Site – Miguel Angel Paris Torres (ACCIONA)

Interested local authorities are invited to join the EVERYWH2ERE City & Regions Interest Group managed by ICLEI Europe. The group is exchanging regularly about issues, policies and practices related to hydrogen and the implementation of feasible solutions in European towns and cities for accelerating the energy transition. Group members can inquire about hosting EVERYWH2ERE gensets during their demonstration tour. More information here.
