ENABLE City Workshop, Łódź

Unlocking the full potential of green and blue spaces in Polish cities – Learning together with city representatives and researchers

13 March 2019, 09:00 - 18:00
Łódź, Poland- City Hall

On 13 March 2019, the ENABLE project and the City of Łódź (Poland) invite representatives from Polish local governments, civil society organisations, and research institutes to an interactive workshop on “Unlocking the full potential of green and blue spaces in Polish cities”.

In this event:
1. Polish cities will share and exchange experiences on their strategies, policies and governance mechanisms in place to improve and make use of the many benefits of urban greens and blue spaces
2. City representatives and researchers will discuss how they can together better promote green and blue infrastructure development locally by sharing scientific insights, municipal needs and practical expertise

The project “Enabling Green and Blue Infrastructure Potential in Complex Social-Ecological Regions” (ENABLE) is studying how green and blue infrastructure can be designed and implemented to best deliver numerous social and environmental benefits, such as social inclusion, health and human wellbeing, storm water retention and habitat functions. ENABLE uses a transdisciplinary approach to investigate the role of green and blue infrastructure in tackling a range of socio-ecological challenges cities are facing.

ENABLE is exploring possible green and blue infrastructure solutions to urban challenges in the metropolitan regions of Halle (Germany), Barcelona (Spain), Łódź , Stockholm (Sweden) and Oslo (Norway), while also exchanging with the City of New York (USA).

The City of Łódź has long-standing experience in planning urban green infrastructure, which it will present. The ENABLE project has looked at the availability, accessibility and attractiveness of public green spaces in Łódź to understand how planning processes and the built environment lead to an equitable distribution of these spaces for all residents across the city.

Other Polish cities such as Wroclaw (tbc) and Poznan (tbc) will share how they use and create green and blue spaces for all and what role researchers, citizens and other stakeholders play. All participants are invited to a site visit planned from 15:00 to 18:00 to a local NBS and revistalisation site in the city.

Registration link and the final programme will be available soon.
