Fifty participants engaged in dazzling discussion at the second Breakfast at Sustainability’s. The event was part of a series of informal discussions focusing on specific sustainability issues and organised by the ICLEI Brussels Office.

The topic, Financing climate champions – engaging your community in local climate action, aimed to explore and explain ways to mobilise and finance local climate action. An ICLEI team introduced the LG Action project, a networking action to involve Local Governments in the EU and international energy and climate debate.

Afterwards, Pedro Ballesteros from the European Commission, presented the Covenant of Mayors, a movement of more than 700 cities committed to targets reaching beyond the EU’s climate targets.

The meeting concluded with a presentation by the European Local Energy Assistance (ELENA), the EC/EIB financial facility to support project development for local and regional authorities on climate action.

Participants showed keen interest in specific financing aspects and received detailed feedback from the representative of the European Investment Bank.
