Webinar

Facilitating project finance through standardised risk assessment

EIP-SCC Smart City project webinar series

7 May 2020, 15:00 - 16:00

Risk is inherent to all financial transactions, and its assessment occupies whole departments at large financial institutions. Energy efficiency finance is no exception. But, along with an overall lack of standardised terms and contractual agreements, there is also no generally accepted way of discussing, analysing and potentially mitigating specific risk types in this sector.

The lack of an agreed methodological structure of risk assessment causes many projects to fail, as it leads to time-consuming discussions, and it increases due diligence costs and process time.

This webinar will support participants in better understanding risk assessment as a key tool to ensure public projects’ bankability and private projects’ financing by third parties. It will also present a first draft of the "LAUNCH Risk Assessment Protocol," developed to address risk assessment gaps.

Who should attend?

  • Cities representatives, project developers, ESCOs and consultants with an ambition to learn more about a key financial topic that would increase the chances to get projects financed by third party investors.
  • Financial institutions, fund managers and insurance companies interested in the standardised approach to risk assessment provided by the LAUNCH risk tool.

What you will learn:

  • Why risk assessment is key for projects’ bankability
  • What the LAUNCH project is, and what the standardised risk assessment protocol aims to achieve
  • Why risk assessment is important from a bank's perspective

The webinar is organised by the EIP-SCC Marketplace – to which ICLEI contributes – and the LAUNCH project. The EIP-SCC is an initiative supported by the European Commission that brings together cities, industry, SMEs, investors, banks, research and other smart city actors.
