Local authorities, transport experts and others in the field of sustainable mobility participated in the first workshop on the “Effective solutions for green urban transport – Learning from CIVITAS cities” series. The workshop took place on 13 September 2011 in parallel with the ICLEI European Convention 2011. CIVITAS cities shared the results of the innovative urban transport solutions they have been testing.
CIVITAS has helped cities to make a significant shift towards sustainable transport, by encouraging both innovative technology and policy-based strategies. Participants learned how to replicate sustainable mobility success stories in their city and gained an insight into what pioneering cities have achieved, the challenges they have faced and the lessons they have learned. The workshop specifically focused on two thematic building blocks of CIVITAS: Collective passenger transport and safety and security.
The event was an interactive mix of presentations and discussions with participants encouraged to ask questions and engage with the speakers. Participants included representatives of cities, public transport operators, research programmes and others working in the field of sustainable urban mobility.
