UrbanByNature Webinar: how to finance nature-based solutions in the urban environment

29 October 2019, 14:00 - 15:00

UrbanByNature – the Global Programme for Urban Nature Pioneers – will host the next webinar in its series. This webinar will explore "How to finance nature-based solutions in the urban environment”.

In this webinar, which will take place on 29 October from 14:00-15:00 CET (10:00-11:00 Brasília Time), the fourth step of the UrbanByNature programme, "COMMIT & PLAN," will be introduced. Cities and researchers from the EU and Brazil will provide insights into how cities can get inspired as they determine the best-suited financing and business models for nature-based solutions (NBS). Key elements will be highlighted, and case studies will be shared to better contextualise the work needed to successfully finance urban NBS.

Speakers in this webinar include:

  • Siobhan McQuaid, Head of Innovation, Centre for Social Innovation, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
  • Ian Goodman, MyParkScotland Project Manager and Emma Halliday, Programme Manager, Scotland
  • Juliana Ribeiro, Senior Analyst, Grupo Boticário, Curitiba, Brazil

The webinar will be moderated by Daniela Rizzi (ICLEI Europe) and Sophia Picarelli (ICLEI South America).

The webinar will cover financing and business models for NBS, addressing questions such as: how much do NBS cost and who pays for them? Why is a business model for NBS important? How do you build a business model for NBS? It will also present case studies to illustrate innovative approaches to financing NBS through public-private-people partnerships (PPPP), and through small-scale financing mechanisms, such as crowd financing of community projects, as taken on in Scotland.

An updated agenda will follow.
