Mannheim2020 Conference Toolbox session: Lessons from the European Green Capital Network

2 October 2020, 09:30 - 11:00
- Online

The European Green Capital Network Secretariat invites you to join its session “Toolbox: Lessons from the European Green Capital Network”, taking place on 2 October as part of the 9th European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns: Mannheim2020.
During 2018-2020, the European Green Capital Network (EGCN) has developed five toolkits to share the experience of European Green Capital Award winners and finalists with other cities and provide recommendations and strategies around key thematic visions for sustainable urban development.

In this interactive session, each thematic EGCN toolkit will be presented by a pioneering network member. They will showcase what leading work their cities have done in the areas of adaptation, renewable energy, waste management and human scale urban development and how others can follow in their footsteps to become the next European Green Capital.

The Network Secretariat will present examples from other member cities and highlight the resources the Network has to offer to all cities who strive to become greener. The European Commission will be joining the session and explaining the importance of the Network and its toolkits to inspire cities to tackle their most pressing environmental challenges and implement EU policy and legislation.

Speakers for this session are:
• Claudia Fusco, Head of Unit, DG Environment, European Commission
• Anne-Marie Larsen, Project Manager, City of Copenhagen
• Johan Sandström, Head of Sustainable Development, City of Umeå
• Ton Verhoeven, Policy Adviser, City of Nijmegen
• Nina Sankovič, Public Relations Adviser, Voka Snaga, City of Ljubljana
• Juan Carlos Escudero, Head of Information and Innovation for Sustainability, Environmental Studies Center, City of Vitoria-Gasteiz
