The THERMOS toolbox session will provide participants with the opportunity to explore the THERMOS open-source energy planning software as a viable tool to accelerate their local energy transition by enabling faster and more cost-effective low-carbon thermal district energy planning.
The session will not only highlight the importance and potential of district energy networks for decarbonising Europe’s energy systems and supply rapidly and affordably, but also introduce participants to the software and its main features for optimising local energy planning processes and results.
THERMOS users and THERMOS project partners will present their real energy planning projects developed with the software and guide participants in taking their first steps with the software via guided exercises.
The session aims to accelerate the setup or the modernisation and expansion of district heating and cooling networks in cities and towns from across Europe by focusing on:
- state-of-the-art thermal energy mapping and modelling practices informing the THERMOS software optimisation algorithms
- when and how to apply THERMOS and what benefits it holds for local energy planning
- integrating results of the THERMOS software in urban planning processes and energy action plans
*The session will be particularly relevant to all those interested in optimising their existing local thermal network (planning) or in building up new heat and cold district networks.
The event is part of the 9th European Conference on Sustainable Towns & Cities (Mannheim2020) taking place from 30 Sep - 02 Oct.
