Data-driven tools to enhance buildings decarbonisation

25 May 2022, 16:00 - 17:00

This online workshop aims to explore how digital technologies and data-driven tools, including Google Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) and tools from the MATRYCS project could support cities in advancing low carbon transitions in the buildings sector.  Collectively, buildings in the EU are responsible for 40% of the energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions. Understanding buildings energy performance and iImproving energy efficiency in buildings has a key role to play in achieving the ambitious goal of carbon-neutrality by 2050, set out in the European Green Deal. However, building data availability, accessibility, quality and comparability issues remain a big challenge,  currently holding back evidence-based policy making in Europe.

We will hear from building experts, how digital tools could support cities in identifying new and innovative ways to assess their building stock and reduce energy consumption as well as linked GHG emissions in cities’ built environments. During the session, cities will be invited and encouraged to test and try the Matrycs tools and Google EIE

Registration is open! The agenda will feature several short contributions, including:

  • EU buildings sector sustainability and data needs for enhanced sustainable energy planning in cities
    Andreas Jaeger, ICLEI Europe

  • Buildings data and machine learning models for buildings energy efficiency
Marisa Leung, Environmental Insights Explorer Tech Lead, Google

  • AI-empowered frameworks for decision-support models, data analytics and visualization tools for buildings
Vaggelis Marinakis, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA)

  • Data-driven services to support SECAPs impact assessment, implementation and monitoring
    Marcelo Lampowski, ICLEI Europe
