Book on Local Governments and Climate Change examines challenges and solutions

"This is a timely book that addresses an urgent problem. Not only does it draw our attention to the role of local government in addressing climate change but it also highlights the issue with regard to small and medium sized communities, which is where the majority of Europe‘s population actually lives". Rob Atkinson, University of the West of England, Bristol, UK.

This is just one of the positive reviews of Local Governments and Climate Change - Sustainable Energy Planning and Implementation in Small and Medium Sized Communities. Maryke van Staden from the ICLEI European Secretariat is one of editors of the book, which focuses on how small and medium-sized communities in Europe are effectively responding to climate change, with a particular focus on different approaches used in sustainable energy planning and implementation. The book contains numerous case studies, showing how mayors and local governments can and must act.

Local Governments and Climate Change is part of a series on Advances in Global Change Research. The series deals with the challenge of climate change and the fact that overcoming this challenge requires urgent action and the engagement of local governments and communities.
