Engage with experts using AI to accelerate carbon neutrality

Organisations working on artificial intelligence (AI) solutions are invited to join a 'Bootcamp', which will include a number of online events, such as a matchmaking event, online seminars, and more. The Bootcamp will work to connect local governments with AI solutions that can accelerate the path to carbon neutrality in the fields of mobility and energy.

The Bootcamp will bring together startups, SMEs, larger companies, climate change experts, and all other relevant stakeholders interested in designing innovative AI solutions for public authorities. Through a series of events, the Bootcamp will coach participants in how to write the best possible applications for an upcoming pre-commercial procurement (PCP) tender, to be launched by 1 December.

The objective is also to encourage participating teams to exchange knowledge and push forward their preliminary solution ideas to accelerate carbon neutrality in the fields of mobility and energy.

Those cities and regions looking to procure AI solutions have already identified some general challenges they are trying to solve, such as:

  • Grid management, optimisation of energy flows, smart grids
  • Increasing citizen awareness of energy consumption and motivation for energy saving
  • Energy optimisation via AI, retrofitting or refurbishment of building and assets
  • Seamless transportation flows combining soft mobility (biking, walking, etc.) and public transportation
  • Optimising charging station placement (cars, boats)
  • Optimising/coordinating transportation of goods (including last mile logistics)
  • Mobility as a service (real time, easy flows…)

The Bootcamp process and timeline will include:

  • 3 September: informational webinar for those interested in learning more about the project and PCP
  • 8 September: Open-Market Consultation Matchmaking event
  • 11 September: last day to apply to join the Bootcamp
  • 14 - 20 September: announcement of selected Bootcamp participants
  • 23 - 24 September: Co-Creation Days

Another PCP Matchmaking event will take place in December, following the publishing of the tender.

This Bootcamp and the tendering process are all being organised as part of the AI4Cities project, in which ICLEI Europe is a partner. To learn more about the AI4Cities project, click here.
