Extended Deadline: Regions can apply for financial support in climate adaptation planning

Pathways2Resilience brings diverse stakeholders together to shape a common vision for regional climate adaptation, while demonstrating how regions are successfully being supported by the EU’s Mission: Adaptation to Climate Change. But what will a more transformative approach to resilience look like at the community scale? To answer this question, Pathways2Resilience has opened a call for regions and communities, from which successful applicants will receive support as they develop strategies and action plans aimed at boosting resilience to climate change.

Guided by a central objective to help regions and communities to advance their resilience, Pathways2Resilience works to empower 150 regions in developing transformative adaptation plans as a flagship project under the Mission on Adaptation. The call for applicants has kick-started this process by putting in motion the identification of regions and communities eligible to receive funding and tailor-made support services. The selected 40 regions will be directly supported by the Pathways2Resilience consortium, receiving up to 210,000€ each to move forward on climate adaptation planning.

During the launch of the call, Elina Bardram, Director for Adaptation & Resilience, Communication and Civil Society Relations at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action and Mission Manager for Adaptation to Climate Change, made the case for why this regional- and community-level support is so important to the Mission: “As part of the EU Mission Adaptation to Climate Change, Pathways2Resilience will help regional and local authorities to explore different adaptation scenarios and innovative solutions in a systemic way, and to find the pathway best suited for their needs. I encourage regions in every stage of their climate resilience journey to apply to the programme and benefit from its funding and services. This is your opportunity to demonstrate transformative solutions (such as flood-proof buildings, more drought resistant crops, and innovative insurance products) and engage citizens in a participatory way.”

This call signals a new future for regional and community-scale resilience – one based on collaboration and systemic change.

UPDATE: The Pathways2Resilience call deadline is being extended until Monday 6 May 2024 12:00 CET. Pathways2Resilience partners have received updated guidance from CINEA: “Following the accession of the United Kingdom to the Horizon Europe Programme, UK regions are eligible for funding”. Considering the UK's status as a HE associated country as of January 1st, 2024, it is hereby affirmed that regions in the UK are eligible to be awarded funding from the cascade calls funded under HORIZON-MISS-2021-CLIMA-02-02, provided that they meet the other eligibility requirements of the call.
