Scotland is on a journey to accelerate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. In September 2017, Scotland’s First Minister set the ambition to phase out the need for new petrol and diesel cars by 2032.

A comprehensive review of the developments that have been undertaken to help achieve this ambitious aim have recently been published in a report titled The Electric Nation 2018.

The report outlines the benefits that electric vehicles (EVs) are bringing to Scotland, and includes the findings of Scotland’s first EV Drivers Survey, with the 184 respondents driving a collective total of 1.5 million electric miles a year.

The report also showcases the work ICLEI Member city Glasgow (United Kingdom) has done through the RUGGEDISED project to help accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the city.

The RUGGEDISED project seeks to create urban spaces powered by secure, affordable and clean energy, smart electro-mobility, and smart tools and services.

In Glasgow, the focus is on a Smart Street, with the aim of developing a cluster of innovative solutions and business models, integrating low carbon technologies with electric vehicles.
