Vicenza takes an eco-sustainable and innovative approach to the maintenance of urban green spaces

ICLEI Member Vicenza (Italy) has begun to approach the maintenance of green areas and historic parks in the city center in a more eco-sustainable and innovative way, through a new initiative called AIM Amcps.

The initiative uses technologically advanced electrical equipment for the maintenance of urban green spaces, which is able to minimize environmental impact in terms of gas emissions and noise pollution.

Through installing sensors on the equipment, capable of collecting machine usage data and the level of vibrations absorbed by the operator, the initiative is able to ensure the maintenance equipment is managed efficiently, and unnecessary wear and tear is avoided.

There are also positive health benefits for the maintenance crew using the equipment, such as a reduction in noise pollution and the ability to minimise vibrations.

The initiative will be made operable in district 1 of the city, which includes the city centre, historic parks and city parking lots. The area contains 331,321 square meters of lawns and 4,311 meters of hedges.
