Why be an intern at ICLEI Europe?

We welcome interns at our offices in Berlin, Freiburg (Germany) and Brussels (Belgium). Internships are possible in the following teams (subject to availability):

As an intern at ICLEI Europe, you will support staff members in delivering ICLEI Europe's mission to support cities in building more resilient and equitable communities.

Examples of intern tasks include:

  • Communication by e.g. providing and selecting thematic input for monthly newsletters and webinars
  • Partner relationship management, stakeholder engagement
  • Conceptualisation of presentations
  • Conducting research for facts and figures of a specific thematic area 
  • Writing project-related case studies

 

These are the requirements for an internship at ICLEI Europe, slightly differing for each location:

For an internship in our office in Freiburg (Germany):

  • You are a Master's student at a European University. You must continue to be enrolled for the duration of the internship. 
  • An internship is a mandatory part of your study programme. 
  • You are interested in staying for a duration of 3-6 months (5-6 months preferred)
  • You have a scholarship or grant or plan to obtain one. Having a scholarship is a mandatory requirement for taking an internship at ICLEI Europe.
  • You are willing to move to Freiburg for the envisaged time frame
  • You hold a German visa/work permit, if you are a non-EU citizen

For an internship in our office in Brussels (Belgium):

  • You are interested in staying for a duration of 5-6 months
  • You have a scholarship or grant or plan to obtain one. Having a scholarship is a mandatory requirement for taking an internship at ICLEI Europe.
  • You are willing to move to Brussels (Belgium) for the envisaged time frame
  • You hold a Belgium visa/work permit, if you are a non-EU citizen
