Second round of Resilient Cities Challenge offers funding and support

The Rockefeller Foundation has announced the second round of applications for its 100 Resilient Cities Challenge. This competition represents a US $100 million commitment to improving resilience. The Foundation will help cities develop the tools and strategies they need to overcome the stresses and shocks of the 21st century. 100 cities will be chosen in total, with the deadline for this round of funding set for 10 September 2014.

The first 32 cities have already been chosen and are drawing on financial, technical and strategic support to improve their long-term resilience. The Foundation offers selected cities funding to hire a Chief Resilience Officer, membership of the global 100 Resilient Cities network, help in developing a resilience strategy and access to a variety of tools developed by the private and public sector to help design and implement it.

Introducing the latest round of funding, Rockefeller Foundation President Judith Rodin said: “We look forward to inviting more cities to work with us and join the incredible global movement to build urban resilience. While we cannot predict or prevent every disruption or disaster, together we can mitigate the damage and the toll they take on economies, ecosystems, and, most importantly, people - and ensure our urban places remain centers for innovation and opportunity for the future.”
