Share innovative actions to strengthen rural communities’ resilience

The current global pandemic is impacting communities across the world. Cities have largely been in the spotlight of much of the pandemic coverage. But, how are rural communities coping with challenges resulting from the pandemic? How can these communities exchange knowledge to support each other?

The RURITAGE project – which works on enhancing the heritage-driven regeneration of rural-areas – has opened a call aimed at gathering and sharing rural expertise and experience in addressing the challenges driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rural areas are not less affected by the unfolding crisis than urban territories, and the challenges they face are exacerbated by lower availability of resources and greater isolation. In the midst of the pandemic, rural communities can struggle to find tailored solutions for their fragile environments.

However, rural communities also cannot be underestimated. They are enhancing the value of local resources, cultural and natural heritage and human capital through mutual support, reinforced networks, better collaboration, cooperation and solidarity for reinforced resilience.

The project is calling on rural communities, individuals and other interested parties to help co-build a collection of actions, knowledge, skills, ideas, and resources to promote social resilience across Europe and around the globe during this trying time.
