Representative of Polish EU Presidency to address participants at ICLEI European Convention

Joanna Maćkowiak-Pandera, under-secretary of state in the Ministry of Environment, responsible for the Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union in environmental matters will speak at the ICLEI European Convention 2011. Maćkowiak-Pandera is an expert in international issues of environment protection and believes that seeking the tools for integrating the economic and social policies with the environmental policy constitutes the most important professional challenge.

Since February 2011 she has been a plenipotentiary for European issues at the Ministry of Environment. She was responsible for political strategy, preparing the priorities for the Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union within environment protection, and coordinating the work of experts. Maćkowiak-Pandera will speak in the closing plenary of the convention, where she react to the local governments recommendations on how European cities can effectively implement the EU 2020 strategy to advance European local sustainability, in particular in the context of the Polish Presidency.

The convention takes place from 12-14 September in Brussels (Belgium) and gathers ICLEI members, representatives of the business community and local government decision- makers to engage in high level discussion, share knowledge and gain insight views from experts and pioneer cities innovative solutions.
