E-MOBILITY WORKS Final Conference assesses the project's legacy

The E-MOBILITY WORKS project, which aims to fully develop e-mobility potential in European municipalities and businesses, held its Final Conference in Brussels (Belgium) on 14 June 2016 during the EU Sustainable Energy Week. The project helped participating municipalities to develop “e-mobility action plans”, which defined individual measures to strengthen electric mobility. The Final Conference highlighted the outcomes of the project and discussed the future of e-mobility in European cities. The project coordinator, Eva Stadtschreiber of Grazer Energie Agentur, explained how the action plans developed by the project include a close cooperation between the municipality, businesses, and interest groups in their delivery and construction.

Jose Fernandez Garcia of the European Commission’s DG MOVE stressed the need to speed up the electrification of transport and underlined the key role of local authorities in that process. The outcomes of the E-MOBILITY WORKS project were presented by Thekla Heinel (B&S.U.). 118 charging stations as well as 398 e-vehicles have been acquired in the course of the project. Hundreds of stakeholders have been consulted and involved and as a result, clear political support has been gained. Tailor made action plans have been developed for 29 municipalities.

Eva Stadtschreiber, the coordinator of the project, said: ‘The project consortium can now happily say that project goals have been reached. The Final Conference was a great opportunity to exchange on the results of the project and to share views with the participants on how to build on project results in the future. Great enthusiasm has been noted from the participants and I am optimistic that we will see more and more interest from the public as well as the private sector for electro-mobility in the future, also due to the work carried out within the EMOBILITY WORKS project’.
