Presentations by video link, an interactive debate with over 1,000 participants and an afternoon of diverse parallel sessions marked the opening day of the 6th Sustainable Cities and Towns Conference in Dunkerque (France).
Participants enjoyed a day of informative presentations and the opportunity to have their say about the morning sessions and to tackle various sustainability questions posed to them during the interactive debate. Day two opens with ten parallel sessions coming under the heading of Governing and managing sustainable cities. ICLEI is involved in a number of sessions including integrated management, Addressing climate change through procurement and Informed Cities.
The day’s key plenary is, Connected and committed – Progress of local sustainability in Europe. The plenary features a number of high profile speakers from across Europe, Klaus Bondam, Deputy Mayor of Copenhagen will speak about the aftermath of COP15 in Copenhagen in his presentation on Global confusion versus city consensus, while Mayor of Aalborg, Henning G. Jensen and Alderman for Health and Sustainable Development, Thomas Kastrup-Larsen will discuss the Aalborg Commitments.
