Electric mobility is at the centre of discussion at the upcoming Second German Electric Vehicle Congress, to be held in Bonn (Germany) from 17-18 June 2010.
The event will gather together top-class speakers from politics and research, the automotive industry, the energy industry, the electrical sector to present their current developments. Wolfgang Teubner, ICLEI´s Executive Director, will present the local government perspectives and experiences in the field of sustainable mobility at a parallel session on Communal Strategies, taking place on the second day.
More than 80 percent of people live in cities and more than 40 percent of carbon dioxide is produced from road transport, with 70 percent of other pollutants coming from urban traffic. Therefore, the role of local governments in tackling climate change and reducing pollution is essential. ICLEI has been supporting municipalities in developing sustainable transport strategies, through the CIVITAS Initiative, in which ICLEI is a partner. The discussion on local renewables is also high on the agenda at ICLEI, with the Local Renewables Conference taking place from 14-15 October, in Freiburg (Germany).
