Share your city’s heat challenges and unlock early access to new resilience tools

Extreme heat events are increasing in frequency and intensity across Europe, posing serious risks to urban areas. Human-made factors such as dense infrastructure, extensive asphalt, and limited green spaces intensify ‘urban overheating’, making targeted adaptation strategies crucial.

Cities are invited to contribute to the development of a pilot Urban Heat Service, led by research organisations VITO and TECNALIA as part of the Destination Earth initiative. This service will use advanced climate and land-use data to provide highly detailed urban heat indicators, supporting cities in understanding and managing heat-related risks to public health, productivity, and infrastructure.
The service will offer city administrations high-resolution heat maps (up to 100-meter scale, with detailed 1-meter assessments in selected areas) and data on indicators such as tropical nights, heatwave exposure, heat-related mortality, and lost working hours due to heat stress. Users will be able to explore climate adaptation scenarios like adding green infrastructure or reflective surfaces through an interactive online platform.

Cities can participate by sharing their local heat challenges via a survey, helping shape the service to meet real city needs. Selected cities will gain early access to the Urban Heat Service, receiving tailored support to inform long-term adaptation planning. Fill in the survey now and get access to new climate services.
