ICLEI Europe, as part of the European Alliance for a Just Transition, supports its newly released Vision for the EU Cycle 2024-2029 and Beyond. The document underscores the urgent need for a fair and inclusive green transition that prioritises social, climate, and environmental objectives while ensuring economic prosperity for all.

The Vision sets out a roadmap for an EU that:

• Ensures the green transition leads to prosperity for all, with a strong focus on reducing socio-economic inequalities.
• Advances ambitious and forward-looking climate, environmental and social agendas in a coordinated, coherent and mutually reinforcing manner.
• Applies and promotes proactive decision-making for a fair and just transition and makes substantial investments to support it.
• Puts social, climate and environmental objectives at the heart of all its internal and external actions and investments to foster a truly sustainable society.

ICLEI Europe emphasises the crucial role of cities in achieving these goals and calls for stronger EU support for local governments. Cities serve as drivers of change, implementing policies that address climate action, social inclusion, and economic growth simultaneously. Strengthening EU-city collaboration will accelerate the transition towards a just and sustainable future.

As part of the Alliance, ICLEI urges the EU and Member States to adopt this vision and work towards a just transition that respects planetary boundaries while improving living standards for all. Only through coordinated efforts can Europe build a resilient, fair, and climate-neutral society.
