Meet the CIVITAS Initiative at Urban Mobility Days

How can we encourage more citizens to move around by cycling, walking or public transport? What skills do transport planners need to bring about a mass behavioural change? What are the urban mobility needs of Ukraine, now and in the future? What are the energy needs of urban mobility in Europe? These questions address just some of the many topics to be covered during the Urban Mobility Days from 4-6 October 2023 in Seville (Spain).

The Urban Mobility Days is the European Commission’s flagship event on urban mobility. This year’s event is jointly organised by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, and the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU. The event will take place primarily with in-person attendance. However, it is also possible to attend the event online.

In Seville, the CIVITAS Initiative, coordinated by ICLEI Europe, will join up with hundreds of mobility practitioners, policy makers, researchers, political and industry representatives, to network, debate and exchange ideas on emerging transport trends and technologies, the latest developments in sustainable urban mobility planning, and solutions to make urban mobility more sustainable. With 2023 being the European Year of Skills, the Urban Mobility Days will place a specific focus on the skills, knowledge and tools that mobility practitioners need, to transition urban spaces into liveable cities and towns with sustainable transport infrastructure.

The whole of the CIVITAS community – including the projects, the CIVINETs and members - are playing an active role in Seville. Key sessions include ‘Meet the CIVITAS Community’, the ‘CIVITAS Politicians’ Forum’, the 'CIVITAS Educational Network Meeting' and the dynamic CIVITAS ‘Project Pitches’ - a high-speed presentation round of current CIVITAS projects - all on Day 1. Additionally, CIVITAS is hosting its interactive mobility AGORA sessions - whereby innovators present their market-ready mobility solutions developed within CIVITAS projects through pitches and exhibitions in and around the AGORA stage. For more information on CIVITAS activities at the Urban Mobility Days, consult the overview of CIVITAS sessions.

In accordance with the European Green Deal, the key message emanating from the Urban Mobility Days programme is that the future of urban mobility cannot be separated from the issues of climate change adaptation, inclusiveness, participation, and accessibility, and that only together, can we progress on our common journey.
