To accelerate the energy transition, different stakeholders need to collaborate on the local level. Rural municipalities have much to gain from renewable energy, but are often faced with limited resources, unclear regulations, public opposition and lack of positive spill-over effects on the territory hosting these infrastructures. When local disputes related to the development and deployment of renewable energy (RES) projects arise, municipalities often need to mediate between competing interests and facilitate greater acceptance, but are hamstrung by a lack of resources and expertise to perform this role.
To support municipalities, the Fast & Fair Renewables & Grids initiative, is launching a series of capacity building workshops across Spain, Poland and Italy where baseline principles for the implementation of RES will be presented. These baseline principles, developed in collaboration with and rooted in a consensus between European energy stakeholders, are key to mediating between competing interests on the level and ensure that the implemented project is considered fair for all.
Each workshop will be held in the national languages (Spanish, Polish, Italian) and will offer participants the chance to:
- Discover how to apply the principles locally, based on concrete examples of their application
- Discuss obstacles and opportunities in applying these principles in their territories
The workshops will feature participation from business and civil society organisations.
Elected officials or representatives from municipalities inhabitants, with an interest in renewable energy projects, as well as other actors involved in the deployment of renewable energy are invited to join the workshops.
