ICLEI Europe will once again be partnering with the annual Urban Future conference, set to convene in ICLEI Member Rotterdam (The Netherlands), from 5-7 June 2024. As a gathering of visionary 'city changers', this event serves as a nexus for urban development experts, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and thought-leaders committed to fostering sustainability within our cities.

At the heart of the conference, ICLEI Europe will be actively engaged across a spectrum of sessions, with a particular emphasis on strategies for building sustainable urban environments.

Highlight sessions include:

• Redoing Heritage. How to transform historical sites through place-led urban innovation

Date & time: 5 June, 14:00 - 15:30 PM CEST

Dr. Małgorzata Ćwikła, Expert in Built Environment, Culture, and Heritage at ICLEI Europe, will take the stage to present findings from various cities, including ICLEI Members Athens (Greece) and Izmir (Türkiye), as part of the INHERIT project. Through these case studies, Dr. Ćwikła will illuminate the vital role and value of historic sites in triggering urban innovations.

• Placemaking as a Strategic Urban Regeneration Method

ICLEI Europe will co-moderate this session which will draw from Rotterdam's own experiences. This session will delve into the pivotal role of placemaking in driving urban regeneration strategies, emphasising the alignment of stakeholder interests with innovative place-led initiatives. Specifically, insights will be shared on the CULTUURCAMPUS project.
