Win a peer learning experience on sustainable mobility for your city

Is your city leading the way in sustainable urban mobility?

The CIVITAS Initiative – coordinated by ICLEI Europe and working to make sustainable and smart urban mobility a reality for all – is inviting cities to join the 2025–2027 CIVITAS Replication and Deployment Programme as Champion Cities.

Over the next two years, 12 selected Champion Cities will share their proven approaches through various take-up and transfer activities such as twinning sessions, co-creation workshops and site visits in one of three focus areas: Road Safety and Security, Behavioural Change and Mobility Management, or Multimodal Hubs, paired alongside Challenge Cities across Europe.

The programme is designed to accelerate the adoption of sustainable mobility solutions through hands-on peer learning and real-world problem-solving.

From improving visibility at school crossings in Stuttgart (Germany) to designing inclusive mobility hubs in Osmangazi (Türkiye), current projects show the diversity and creativity of urban action. Earlier this year, Champion Cities San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Spain) and Saint-Quentin (France) travelled to Komotini (Greece) to exchange insights on universal design and accessibility. Illustrating how direct collaboration helps avoid mistakes, adapt solutions to local contexts and inspire new ideas.

Cities that have been involved in CIVITAS projects are encouraged to apply and use the programme to enhance their projects’ exploitation activities. Champion Cities may select a preference for the Challenge City they wish to support, participate in study visits, and receive reimbursement of up to €875 for travel expenses.

As Ángel Miguel Hernández Chinea, Deputy Mayor of La Laguna, put it: “It is important for cities to share experiences, what went well and what didn’t, so we can avoid repeating mistakes and bring new ideas to others.”
