With more demand for cleaner mobility options, ICLEI Member cities are at the forefront of bold, people-first mobility solutions across Europe.
A recent European Commission study shows that 8 out of 10 European citizens view tackling climate change as a top priority.
Despite this support, the transport sector remains one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the EU, responsible for 73.2% of all transport-related emissions in 2022 (European Environmental Bureau).
Against this backdrop, the CIVITAS Initiative, coordinated by ICLEI Europe and comprising over 380 local authorities, many of which are ICLEI Member cities committed to sustainable urban mobility, has released its Annual Update 2025.
Through collaborative projects, capacity-building efforts, and city-led innovation, CIVITAS is helping cities transition to cleaner, more inclusive, and climate-friendly mobility systems, making sustainable urban mobility a reality for all.
From new National Networks, including CIVINET Ukraine, supporting accessible, inclusive urban mobility in every Ukrainian city, to the City of Bologna, awarded the European Mobility Week award, and Parma, which is setting a precedent for inter-institutional cooperation to promote cycling across Europe.
The Annual Update video 2025 provides a breakdown of a few standout achievements throughout 2024.
