Is your city ready to amplify youth voices and build a vibrant, inclusive future? Applications are now open for the prestigious European Youth Capital (EYC) 2028 title, offering municipalities across Europe the opportunity to showcase innovative projects created by and for young people.
The EYC title, awarded annually by the European Youth Forum, empowers young people, enhances youth participation, and strengthens European identity. It gives municipalities a chance to demonstrate their dedication to youth engagement while fostering a stronger sense of community.
Since 2009, this initiative has brought cities and young people closer together, helping to create dynamic and liveable environments. Previous winners of the title include six ICLEI Europe Members: Antwerp (Belgium), Braga and Cascais (Portugal), Maribor (Slovenia), Rotterdam (Netherlands), and Thessaloniki (Greece). These cities highlight how sustainability and youth engagement go hand in hand.
The winning city for 2028 will work with its young residents to highlight their contributions to city life and co-develop inclusive projects that benefit everyone. This process not only strengthens local democracy but also sets an example for other cities across Europe.
Local authorities from Council of Europe Member States that have signed the European Cultural Convention are eligible to apply. The application process also promotes cooperation between decision-makers and youth organisations, ensuring that young people’s priorities help shape the future of their cities.
An info session about the application process will be held on 18 December 2024, at 15:00 CET. The submission deadline is 11 February 2025.
