A just green transition is about more than technology; it requires social innovation, smart policies, and global cooperation. The European Commission’s latest report, A Just and Inclusive Green Transition, highlights 55 EU-funded research projects that are making this vision a reality. Six of these projects feature ICLEI Europe, proving how cities and communities are driving progress toward a fairer, more equitable future.
The ICLEI Europe projects in the spotlight put people at the heart of change. ACCTING and SHARED GREEN DEAL show how cultural and behavioural shifts can make the Green Deal more inclusive. CLEVER Cities, ARCH, and UrbanA focus on resilient, socially inclusive urban planning. BIOVoices brings stakeholders together to build a more collaborative bio-based economy.
These projects do more than talk about change. They engage marginalised communities, enable participatory decision-making, and strengthen social resilience. At the same time, they shine a light on persistent challenges, from structural inequalities to limited access to decision-making for vulnerable groups. The lessons are clear: integrated governance, inclusive financing, and citizen-led initiatives are essential to creating a sustainable and just future.
ICLEI Europe is proud to have its projects featured in the report. This recognition highlights the vital role that cities and communities play in shaping a just and inclusive green transition and underscores the need for continued EU support.
