The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) announced the winners of the Europe Leadership in Green Building Awards 2015 at an award ceremony held during the Greenbuild exhibition in Verona (Italy) on 16 October 2015. The biannual awards were established by the WorldGBC Europe Regional Network to promote leadership on sustainability and inspire best practice in building projects, business practice and public policy.
The Eiffel Palace (Budapest, Hungary) took home the leadership in Building Design and Performance award, while Castellum AB (Sweden) won the Business Leadership in Sustainability award. The Public Sector Leadership in Green Buildings award was given to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (UK) for their ground-breaking regulations addressing the energy inefficiency of existing building stock.
Dr Christine Lemaitre, Chair of the Europe Regional Network, stressed the high quality of the nominations put forward by the national Green Building Councils this year, stating: “Green building in Europe is beginning to move to centre stage. As the market makes this journey it is important that we shine a light on examples of leadership so others can be inspired and learn from them. We are delighted to honour our 2015 winners and nominees, all of which are superb examples of European green building leadership.”
