Final REFILL conference to showcase transformation of vacant spaces

ICLEI Member Ghent (Belgium) will hold a conference on the temporary use of abandoned and derelict spaces on 27 March as part of the EU-funded ‘REFILL’ project.

The ‘REFILL’ project, which is part of the URBACT network, has been running for the last two and a half years, focusing on transforming abandoned and derelict spaces into areas of value for the local community. In cities across Europe these uninhabited spaces have been temporarily repurposed into meeting spaces, urban agricultural land, cultural areas, and more.

The project brings together partners from: Amersfoort (Netherlands), Athens (Greece), Bremen (Germany), Cluj (Romania), Ghent , Helsinki (Finland), Nantes (France), Ostrava (Czech Republic), Poznan (Poland) and Riga (Latvia) to develop knowledge and good practices on the topic.

The final conference will see the project partners present results, tools and knowledge gained through the project.

The conference is open to representatives from cities and municipalities, political representatives, participants from other URBACT projects, and those with a background in transforming spaces for temporary use.
