Local and regional authorities play a pivotal role in the EU's mission to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Their decentralised governance structures allow for direct engagement with citizens and stakeholders, crucial for fostering a community-based clean energy transition. However, the effectiveness of these efforts is often limited by a lack of coordination and fragmented information sharing across regions.
ICLEI Europe empowers municipalities to drive ambitious climate action by fostering strong partnerships, accelerating the energy transition through collaborative governance, and achieving a sustainable energy future.
ICLEI Members are invited to support this mission by signing the ePLANET Joint Agreement, which strengthens this ecosystem, driving collective action and achieving shared energy transition goals. This agreement formalises the commitment of local and regional authorities to engage in coordinated energy transition actions through the ePLANET project’s innovative "clustering governance" approach. By signing the agreement, public authorities pledge to use ePLANET’s digital tools to share harmonised information, enhance decision-making, and ensure consistent implementation of renewable energy initiatives.
Key features of the ePLANET Joint Agreement include:
- Harmonised Information Sharing: Establishing a transparent framework for data exchange among public authorities.
- Digitalisation of Energy Plans: Facilitating the digitalisation of energy transition plans to improve coherence and coordination.
- Enhanced Governance: Supporting multi-level governance by integrating local and regional actions with broader EU energy policies.
With over 250 public authorities already committed, ICLEI Members can join a collective effort to accelerate the energy transition. By signing, your organisation can contribute to a unified and effective approach to achieving a sustainable energy future.
