In the global urban landscape, cities are confronted with an array of challenges, ranging from strained infrastructure to environmental pressures. Against this backdrop, prominent policy frameworks like the EU Green Deal and the New Urban Agenda offer accommodating structures for cities to become resilient and sustainable, as well as nurture an environment of equity, accessible to all.
An intersection of policy and application, the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) is a platform where ideas converge with action. Since 2011 the SCEWC has been driven by the purpose of propelling cities into the future. In this context, ICLEI Europe is collaborating with Fira De Barcelona to support a green and digital transformation in cities. The SCEWC will see a wide range of topics, such as data-driven design, generative AI, clean energy transitions, climate action, nature and biodiversity, active mobility, governance, economy, inclusivity, smart infrastructure, building safety, and the blue economy.
ICLEI will develop several activities at SCEWC, including a strong presence of two flagship initiatives: the EU Smart Cities Marketplace and CIVITAS Initiative. In addition, ICLEI will host an ‘agora session’ exploring the role of climate and nature data in cutting emissions, conserving urban nature, and promoting inclusive financial growth. The session titled “Climate and Nature Data Disclosure Towards a Nature-Positive Economy” will feature experts from ICLEI Europe and its Member Cities, who will share insights on the need for transparency and urgent action to disclose information on climate and nature risks and opportunities.
ICLEI Europe will also be part of the SCEWC’s impressive exhibition, which will host organisations showcasing their cutting-edge projects, accentuating the event's practical ethos.
SCEWC will be held in ICLEI Member Barcelona (Spain) from 7-9 November 2023. For more details visit: https://www.smartcityexpo.com/
