Showcase your city's efforts for sustainable heating and cooling

Heating and cooling comprise about half of the European Union’s total energy use. Decarbonising the way our cities heat and cool is thus crucial for reducing emissions, meeting climate mitigation goals and advancing towards climate neutrality, while creating healthy urban spaces, resilient communities, and circular economies. Cities across Europe are successfully moving towards more sustainable solutions for heating and cooling.

If your city is one of them, you can now share your experiences as part of the Covenant of Mayors Cities Heat Detox Campaign. To underscore the essential role they play in the sector, cities are invited to showcase their heat planning strategies by submitting their stories that will populate the Detox Map and be showcased in webinars and events. ICLEI Europe belongs to the consortium of partners running the Covenant of Mayors’ Europe office, and will help with developing case studies based on cities’ experiences in the sector.

The next edition of the EU Covenant of Mayors' Award is also oriented towards the topic of heating and cooling in cities - applications are now being accepted! This is a chance for ICLEI Members that also belong to the Covenant of Mayors to have their efforts towards local decarbonisation for heating and cooling recognised. By spotlighting their achievements, cities can also provide inspiration for others to learn. All Covenant signatories can apply for the award, irrespective of size or resources. Explore the opportunity and apply before 2 December 2024!
