Leading European cities recognised for measureable contributions to sustainability

A clear understanding of data and analytics is an essential component for cities as they manage their environmental impacts. To this end, CDP, the world’s most extensive environmental reporting platform, assesses climate action in cities and towns, as well as companies and financial institutions. Specifically for local governments, CDP and ICLEI have partnered to bring cities CDP-ICLEI Track, the world's leading climate reporting platform and progress accountability mechanism for cities.

Each year, CDP compiles a so-called ‘Cities A list’ that highlights global urban sustainability leaders. “Being recognised as an A-List city is the result of having a clear vision and clear climate targets, underscoring the importance of monitoring, reporting and disclosure to drive transitions and inspire action. By working in collaboration with ICLEI and the CDP-ICLEI Track, cities can set benchmarks and identify opportunities to improve their climate and environmental action in these challenging times,” notes Alis-Daniela Torres, Senior Officer for Sustainable Resources, Climate and Resilience at ICLEI Europe.

Forty European cities made this year’s CDP A-List, including 16 ICLEI Members.

Tomorrow, ICLEI Europe will attend the CDP Europe Awards: Transform the Norm alongside several of these A-List Members, namely: Vantaa, Tampere and Turku (Finland), Oslo (Norway), Mannheim (Germany), Braga (Portugal), and Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basques country). Members of ICLEI Europe's governance board will also be represented, including Deputy-Mayor Ana Oregi from Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Mayor Minna Arve from Turku, who will receive recognition for their impressive work in addressing climate and environmental challenges in their cities.

The CDP awards celebrate environmental leaders across Europe and will bring together leading decision makers to inspire accelerated environmental and climate action. The overall theme of the event reflects a transition to a more sustainable economy and society. The awards will be broadcast on Euronews TV.
