Mannheim to host roundtable on multi-level governance in energy and climate planning

Representatives from local, regional and national energy agencies, ministries and administrative bodies will meet today in Mannheim (Germany) to discuss energy and climate planning. The focus will be on current practices of multi-level governance in Germany and how to improve them to deliver on both national and international targets more concisely and coherently.

The event will kick-off a series of three events dedicated to discussing multi-level governance in Germany and identifying recommendations for improvement in energy and climate planning across all levels of government.

The roundtable is organised by ICLEI Europe in the framework of C-Track 50 - a three year project funded under the Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Commission. The project started in March 2018 and brings together 13 project partners from 11 European countries (universities, consultancies, regional energy agencies, NGOs, regional governments).

Its aim is to mobilise and guide local and regional authorities in defining long-term energy policy priorities, in promoting multi-level governance and in developing, financing and implementing sustainable Energy and Climate Policy Plans. Their purpose is to achieve climate resilience and carbon neutrality by 2050 and support the efforts of the Paris Agreement to limit temperature increase to 1.5°C.
