Ghent wins communicator award at first UN SDG Action Awards

ICLEI Member Ghent (Belgium) was presented with the ‘communicator’ award for their campaign SDG Voices at the first United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Action Awards ceremony, which took place on 21 March in Bonn (Germany). The communication campaign challenged cities in Belgium to encourage Belgians to implement the SDGs in their daily lives.

The award honours initiatives and actions that work towards achieving the SDGS in different corners of the earth. Categories include communicator, connector, includer, innovator, mobiliser, storyteller and visualiser.

The campaign involved 23 Ghent city services and departments, with nearly 6,000 citizens and six cities participating. Others took part in the campaign through social media.

The Awards ceremony took place in tandem with the second edition of the Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development, which saw the Basque Declaration presented.
