Heat Roadmap Europe

2016 - 2019

Heat Roadmap Europe (HRE) is a Horizon 2020 financed programme bringing together 24 partners (universities, research institutions, industry and city associations and a variety of relevant businesses) to map and model the heating and cooling energy systems of the 14 largest users of heat in the EU. Together, HRE seeks to provide holistic analyses of the energy system in order to make the costs, impacts and effects of different sustainable energy measures in the H&C sector comparable for political, public and private decision-makers alike.

HRE’s objective is to empower policy-makers and investors to develop informed policies and thereby invest in new markets that will decarbonise the H&C sector. Among other goals, the project aims to specify how up to 3,000,000 GWh/year of fossil fuels can be saved in Europe, and to illustrate how the €3 trillion of investments required to implement these savings will actually reduce the net cost of Europe’s energy needs.

This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 695989.
