Energy Governance takes centre stage at 2nd European Parliament Breakfast Policy Debate

On Tuesday, 20 February, ICLEI, alongside representatives of four other city networks, joined MEPs Claude Turmes and Theresa Griffin to discuss a wide range of topics related to energy governance.

Mr. Turmes opened the debate and spoke about the important role local governments play in setting national and regional climate and energy plans, as well as in facilitating urban-rural partnerships on renewable energy sources.

Peter Defranceschi, Head of ICLEI Brussels Office, presented on energy poverty and community power, with a particular focus on how to provide legal and structural access to support community power projects.

Other speakers included Zhecho Stankov, Bulgarian Deputy Energy Minister; Clarie Roument, Executive Director, Energy Cities; and Anna Lisa Boni, Secretary General, EUROCITIES.
