EU-Brazil Sector Dialogue on Nature-based Solutions

Nature-based Solutions Week (Brazil)

Nature-based Solutions Week will take place in Brasília (Brazil) on 9-13 March, with the objective of disseminating nature-based solutions and stimulating synergies between different actors working in this field. The UrbanByNature programme will host sessions on 11 March, organised by ICLEI South America and ICLEI Europe in the framework of the Connecting Nature Project.

The sessions will bring together European and Brazilian stakeholders, including European and local small- and medium-enterprises (SMEs). The UrbanByNature programme will offer the SMEs a platform to share their experiences and lessons learnt with providing nature-based solutions as products and/or services.

Nature-based Entrepreneurship (NBE) is still considered a novel concept, and will be at the centre of the discussions. SMEs working with nature-based solutions will be brought closer to an understanding of the term NBE. The audience will also be sensitised to the economic, social and ecological values associated with NBE, as well as the challenges faced by SMEs in providing nature-based products and/or services. Finally, the first session will have a discussion round on the potential of an NBE cluster in Brazil, which would follow in the footsteps of the Málaga (Spain), who will present their experiences working in a Nature-based Solutions Cluster.

As a wrap up and way forward for NBE in Brazil, Connecting Nature will invite SMEs to fill in Connecting Nature’s NBE survey, as a way of calling for participants to join the Connecting Nature Enterprise Platform.

Last but not the least, in the second half of the afternoon, the UrbanByNature programme will be brought to the fore by Daniela Rizzi (ICLEI Europe), who will highlight what has been achieved so far in the programme, and will talk about its future including associated opportunities for urban nature pioneers in Brazil.
