A conversation with Melbourne and London on why denser cities and green infrastructure do not exclude each other

20 July 2017, 09:00 - 18:45

The GREEN SURGE project invites you to its next online conversation, this time with representatives of the cities of Melbourne and London. Both cities have been successfully planning and implementing urban green infrastructure for decades. They will share how they bring more nature into their cities despite growing and becoming denser by the month.

Councillor Cathy Oke heads the Environment portfolio of the City of Melbourne, Australia, and has over 20 years of experience in the sustainability sector. Peter Massini leads the Green Infrastructure Development team at the Greater London Authority, UK. He has spent the majority of his 25 year professional career as an ecologist and natural environment policy maker in London.

Both speakers will introduce participants to their cities’ strategies and their lessons learnt on creating space for an urban green network against the backdrop of Melbourne’s and London’s growth. Cathy and Peter will also touch upon the role of research and the research needs both cities have to make urban green a reality.

20 July 2017, 9:00-9:45 am (BST)/ 10:00-10:45 am (CEST)/ 18:00 am to 18:45 am (AEST)
