ICLEI Europe expands its sustainable mobility horizons

Whilst over 70 percent of EU citizens are now living in urban areas, the links between modes of transport in urban areas and their links to the surrounding areas have often become a major factor affecting quality of life.

Under the European Green Deal, the European Commission is seeking to reduce emissions in the sector by 90 percent by 2050, with cities being key to achieving this goal, supported by the Commission’s new Smart and Sustainable Mobility Strategy.

ICLEI works on a wide array of sustainable mobility projects, helping cities in their shift towards sustainable, active, electric and shared mobility. Two new projects that hope to meet these aims include FastTrack and DREEM.

The Fostering the Acceleration of Sustainable Transport To Regions and Authorities through Capacity and Knowledge (FastTrack) project will work with 24 local areas to help them speed up their deployment of sustainable mobility innovations. What is innovative in one local area may be well-established in another. That is no problem for FastTrack. Through knowledge-sharing, capacity-building events, and various learning methods, the project will meet cities where they are, and support them all to ‘fast track’ their transition to sustainable transport. This will be supported by four ICLEI members as partner cities: Antwerp (Belgium), Bologna (Italy), Budapest (Hungary), and Stockholm (Sweden).

While, DREEM sets out to explore and test how three-wheel e-kick scooters could be used to meet personal, urban, and suburban mobility needs in the city of Turin (Italy), and at the University of Goteborg (Sweden), and Tractebel - an engineering company in France that is a subsidiary of the ENGIE Group.

Keep your eyes on the ICLEI Europe feed for updates once the DREEM and FastTrack websites and social media contact channels are live.
