Baltic cities invited to learn more about the Green City Accord

Since its launch last year, Mayors from across Europe have been steadily joining the Green City Accord, a European Commission initiative to encourage city authorities to take further action to make their cities cleaner and healthier, and thereby improve the quality of life for their citizens. About 40 cities are already signatories, including a large number of ICLEI Members.

On 5 May 2021, an online workshop will introduce the initiative to cities in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The event will take place online from from 15:00 to 17:00 EEST (14:00 to 16:00 CEST), and will provide interpretation in Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian. Those interested in joining can click here to register.

Current signatory cities like ICLEI Members Lappeenranta and Turku will join the workshop, presenting their experiences with the Accord and their plans for implementing their commitments. ICLEI experts will also provide inputs and added details regarding the Accord's monitoring frameworks.

The Green City Accord is an European Commission initiative, which ICLEI Europe, EUROCITIES, and CEMR are supporting in developing and implementing. By joining the Accord, cities commit to addressing five areas of environmental management: improving air and water quality, conserving and enhancing urban biodiversity, advancing towards the circular economy and improving the management of waste, and reducing noise pollution.
